Terms of Use

Last updated: November 2025

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Remote Codetrol (the "Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Software.

Remote Codetrol consists of two components: an iOS application and a server application that runs on your Mac. Both are required for the Software to function.

2. Beta Software

Remote Codetrol is currently in beta. This means:

  • The Software may contain bugs, errors, or other issues
  • Features may change, be added, or removed without notice
  • Data loss or corruption may occur
  • The Software is provided "as is" without warranties
  • We may collect anonymous diagnostic data to improve stability (see our Privacy Policy)

By participating in the beta, you acknowledge and accept these risks.

3. License Grant

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:

  • Install and use the iOS application on devices you own or control
  • Install and run the server application on computers you own or control
  • Use the Software for personal or commercial purposes

You may not:

  • Redistribute, sell, lease, or sublicense the Software
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software
  • Remove or modify any proprietary notices
  • Use the Software in any unlawful manner
  • Attempt to circumvent any security or authentication mechanisms

4. Self-Hosted Architecture

Remote Codetrol is self-hosted software. This means:

  • You are responsible for hosting, securing, and maintaining the server component
  • You are responsible for all data stored on your devices
  • You are responsible for network security and access controls
  • We do not host, store, or have access to your code, conversations, or data
  • We cannot recover lost data or provide backup services

You acknowledge that the security and privacy of your data depends entirely on how you configure and secure your own infrastructure.

5. Third-Party AI Services

Remote Codetrol requires access to third-party AI services (Claude Code and/or OpenAI Codex). You acknowledge that:

  • You must have your own accounts with Claude/Anthropic or OpenAI
  • You are responsible for all costs associated with using these AI services
  • Your use of AI services is subject to their respective Terms of Service and Privacy Policies
  • We are not responsible for the availability, performance, or content generated by third-party AI services
  • Your code is sent to these services according to their privacy policies, not ours

Remote Codetrol is a mobile interface only—we do not provide, control, or guarantee the AI services themselves.

6. System Requirements & Compatibility

Remote Codetrol requires:

  • Server: macOS 13.0+ (Ventura or later)
  • iOS App: iOS 18.0+ (iPhone or iPad)
  • Mac Client App: macOS 16.0+ (Sequoia or later)
  • Network: Local network connection or secure tunnel/VPN
  • AI Services: Active Claude Code or OpenAI Codex access

We make no guarantees about compatibility with future operating system versions, devices, or AI service updates.

7. User Responsibilities

As a user of Remote Codetrol, you are responsible for:

  • Security: Securing your API keys, server access, and network configuration
  • Backups: Creating and maintaining backups of important data
  • Updates: Keeping the Software updated for security and stability

You may not use Remote Codetrol to:

  • Generate malicious code, malware, or security exploits
  • Violate intellectual property rights of others
  • Access systems or data without authorization
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations

9. Disclaimers & Limitations of Liability

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND.

We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to:

  • Merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose
  • Non-infringement of third-party rights
  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation
  • Accuracy, reliability, or completeness of results

Our total liability for any claims shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Software (if any).

10. AI-Generated Code Disclaimer

Important: Remote Codetrol facilitates interaction with AI coding agents, but:

  • We do not generate, review, or validate AI-generated code
  • AI-generated code may contain errors, security vulnerabilities, or licensing issues
  • You are solely responsible for reviewing, testing, and validating all code before use
  • We are not liable for damages caused by AI-generated code
  • Code quality and correctness depend on the third-party AI services, not our Software

Always review AI-generated code carefully before deploying to production.

11. Intellectual Property

Remote Codetrol and its original features are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. We retain all rights, title, and interest in the Software.

Your Content: You retain all rights to your code, data, and content. We claim no ownership over anything you create or process using Remote Codetrol.

Feedback: If you provide feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Software, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use such feedback for any purpose.

Your use of Remote Codetrol is also governed by our Privacy Policy.

Key points:

  • Your code and conversations stay on your infrastructure
  • We collect minimal anonymous diagnostic data during beta (no user IDs)
  • Third-party AI services have their own privacy policies

13. Updates & Changes

We may update the Software and these Terms at any time. For beta users:

  • Updates may introduce breaking changes
  • We will attempt to notify users of significant changes
  • Continued use constitutes acceptance of updated Terms
  • Check this page periodically for updates

14. Termination

Your license to use Remote Codetrol continues until terminated by either party.

You may terminate at any time by uninstalling the Software and ceasing all use.

We may terminate or suspend your access if you:

  • Violate these Terms of Use
  • Use the Software in a harmful or abusive manner
  • Fail to comply with applicable laws

Upon termination, you must cease all use and may delete the Software. Provisions that should survive termination (disclaimers, limitations of liability, etc.) will remain in effect.

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Remote Codetrol, its developers, and affiliates from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:

  • Your use of the Software
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of applicable laws or third-party rights
  • Code you deploy that was generated or assisted by AI services

16. Export Compliance

The Software may be subject to export control laws. You agree to comply with all applicable export and import laws and regulations. You may not use or export the Software in violation of such laws.

17. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of [YOUR JURISDICTION], without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Software shall be resolved through:

  • Good faith negotiation first
  • Binding arbitration if negotiation fails
  • Courts located in [YOUR JURISDICTION] if arbitration is unavailable

18. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

19. Entire Agreement

These Terms of Use, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Remote Codetrol regarding the Software and supersede all prior agreements.
